The Parables of Jesus
Lunchtimes at Lauriston
LUNCHTIMES AT LAURISTON IN LENT
A Series of four lunchtime talks, 1.15 - 2.30:
The First Four Tuesday’s in Lent - 15th, 22nd, 29th of March and 5th April
The Parables of Jesus
4 sessions With Fr Jim Crampsey SJ
Many parables of Jesus have become so familiar that it is sometimes difficult to hear what their challenge is. These sessions will have another look at the parables in the Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke and the non-canonical Gospel of Thomas.
Do we get a sense of what Jesus was trying to say? Can we see how the communities took the stories to make sense of their own experience? Are there modern ways of looking at the parables which may help us?
Fr James Crampsey lectured in Biblical Studies at Heythrop College for twelve years after which he became Provincial of the British Jesuits for six years. Since the turn of the millennium, he has been a parish priest, working first in the multi-faith and multi-ethnic context of Southall in West London, and is now parish priest of the Sacred Heart, Lauriston.
