     Wednesday 28th January 2009

7.30 p.m.

John Pawlikowski, a Servite priest, is Professor of Social Ethics at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He is author of more than 15 books and numerous articles on various aspects of Jewish Christian relations, and has specialised in the Holocaust. His writings include ‘The Challenge of the Holocaust For Christian Theology’ and ‘Ethics in the Shadow of the Holocaust’.

His Lauriston Lecture coincided with the annual commemoration in the UK of Holocaust Memorial Day, a day where we remember the Holocaust, and many other instances of genocide and persecution that have taken place in living memory.

Fr Pawlikowski has been editor of a number of theological journals and served for six years as President of the International Council of Christians & Jews. Currently he serves as President Emeritus and as a member of ICCJ's Executive Board. You can read an article of his here, and listen to an interview with him here.

It was a great honour and a pleasure to welcome him to Edinburgh, and you can download a PDF file of the text of his lecture here. If you prefer, you can listen to a recording of the whole evening, including his opening remarks and the question and answer session which followed (not included in the lecture text).
