In the autumn of 2007 and during lent 2008 Fr Gerry W Hughes SJ led evenings on prayer.

In the autumn of 2008 Fr Gerry Hughes SJ ran a series of 8 lectures entitled ‘Finding Peace in Conflict’. Information is here, and you can listen to the lectures here.

The environment series - On Holy Ground - got off to an excellent start in December 2008. Vérène Nicloas and Alastair McIntosh considered ‘A Spiritual Response to Present Times’. Listen to their discussion here.

In the spirit of AlterNativity Polish artist Anna Lebiedzka held art workshops in Advent 2008. More to come next year!

The environment series - On Holy Ground - continued in Dec 08 with an evening where scientist Aubrey Manning talked to historian Owen Dudley Edwards on points of contact and divergence between science and faith. Listen to .their discussion here.

Professor Michael Northcott took part in the series On Holy Ground, in January 2009, imagining what a papal encyclical on the environment might have to offer the world. Listen to his talk here.

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day in January 2009 Lauriston  welcomed Prof John Pawlokowski from Chicago to speak on Ethics after the Holocaust. Download a pdf copy of his lecture here and listen to the whole evening’s conversation here.

In June 2009  Fr Sean McDonagh brought the current Environment Series to a close with a study day for Religious, and a public lecture, which you can listen to here.

In August 2009, as part of the Edinburgh Festival of Spirituality and Peace, Canon Naim Ateek of the Sabeel Peace Centre in Jerusalem spoke at the Sacred Heart Church. Click here to go the Sabeel website.

On Sunday November 15th 2009 the Sacred Heart Church remembered the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador on their 20th Anniversary. Fr Jim Crampsey’s homily is available here as a PDF.

In November 2009 we began a new occasional series, entitled ‘Meet the Author’. Our first guest was Elizabeth Fensham, award winning children’s writer from Australia. Click here to see a review of some of her work.

In October and November 2009, in association with the Scottish Episcopal church ‘Adventures in Faith’ Series, and to begin the second Lauriston Environment Series Professor Brian Kilbey presented a series of six talks on evolution and faith.  Click here to listen to the lectures.

On December 14th 2009 Fr Gero McLoughlin SJ from the Jesuit Community in Edinburgh gave his reflections on a recent visit to El Salvador to mark the 20th anniversary of the Jesuit martyrs. Click here for a web site that honours them.

In January 2010 our “After Copenhagen” series began, with El Salvador’s Minister for the Environment Mr Herman Rosa Chavez. Click here for more details and to hear his talk.

January 27th is Holocaust Memorial Day and to mark this the Centre joined with St Thomas of Aquin’s school to screen the film ‘God On Trial’. The film was presented by it’s writer Frank Cottrell Boyce. Click here to listen to presentations from him and from pupils of the school.
