Mary Colwell - Working With the Workers

Monday 25th May,  2009, 1.00 - 4.00 a,m,

It was a great pleasure to welcome Mary Colwell back to the Centre, where she spent an afternoon with people who are active, or who would like to be active, in working for care of the environment.

It was an afternoon of conversation and ideas, which generated many excellent ideas and much discussion. Mary was joined by her husband Julian Hector, and by presenters from earlier in the Series, Professor Aubrey Manning and Owen Dudley Edwards.

Mary is Environmental Advisor to the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales and work as a consultant to ARC, the Alliance of Religions and Conservation, working specifically with the Catholic Church to build long term plans that will create a generational change towards the environment. Since leaving the BBC’s Natural History Unit last year Mary remains a freelance radio and TV producer and has recently finished a 6 part series for ITV called Wild Gardens, and regularly contributes to BBC Radio. She is a frequent contributor to The Tablet.

She spearheaded ‘Sound of Many Waters’, an environmental programme of education, worship and hands on experiences for the Clifton Diocese, now being taken up by dioceses around England and Wales. Our own Lauriston Environmental Series is inspired by this year long series of events.
